Safari Travel Is Shifting From Lodge Stays To Connected Journeys
GREATER KRUGER, South Africa, 18 August 2026, Bundox Safari Co. has introduced its Live Wild Packages, a new collection of multi-day safari journeys combining wildlife viewing with conservation, walking trails, retreat experiences, birding and optional extensions across Southern Africa.
The launch reflects a broader shift in safari travel. For many travellers, choosing a safari is no longer only about selecting a lodge and adding game drives. The wider itinerary, how different experiences connect, and what each destination contributes to the journey are becoming increasingly important.
Bundox has developed the Live Wild collection around this change in traveller expectations, creating structured journeys in which different stages serve different purposes rather than repeating the same safari format from one property to another.
Different Experiences Within One Safari Journey
The Live Wild Packages currently include Live Wild & Conserve, Live Wild Retreat, Wild Trail & Retreat and Wild Birding Explorer.
Each package is built around a particular style of wilderness experience.
Live Wild & Conserve places conservation participation alongside traditional safari activities. Wild Trail & Retreat introduces more time on foot before transitioning into a slower retreat experience. Wild Birding Explorer caters to travellers with a specialist interest in birdlife, while Live Wild Retreat combines safari activities with time to slow down in a wilderness environment.
The collection expands Bundox’s existing safari packages by putting greater emphasis on how the individual components of a journey work together.
“The Live Wild collection reflects the way we want to develop safari travel across our business,” said a spokesperson for Bundox Safari Co. “Rather than repeating the same experience from one property to another, each part of the journey should add something different. Wildlife remains central, but conservation, time on foot, different landscapes and opportunities to slow down can all become part of the same itinerary.”
Safari Operator and DMC Under One Structure
Bundox operates a portfolio of safari lodges and camps in South Africa and Botswana, while also operating as a destination management company.
That combination allows the company to work beyond individual lodge bookings and support the planning of wider journeys across Southern Africa.
Accommodation, transfers, activities, routing and additional destinations can be coordinated around the core safari experience, allowing Live Wild Packages to form part of a larger itinerary rather than operating as isolated bookings.
For travel advisors, tour operators and safari specialists, this provides a defined safari product while retaining the flexibility to adapt the broader journey according to the traveller’s available time, interests and onward travel plans.
It is also relevant for international travellers who may be travelling long distances to Southern Africa and want to combine safari with more than one destination or style of experience during the same trip.
PLUS Extensions Expand the Journey
Travellers can extend selected Live Wild journeys through Live Wild Package PLUS options.
PLUS is not a separate package. It is a collection of optional extensions that can be added to an existing Live Wild itinerary.
Current extensions include the Panorama Route Explorer, with destinations such as Blyde River Canyon and Bourke’s Luck Potholes; additional nights or day-trip options in Kruger National Park; wilderness stargazing and sleep-out experiences; and South African Winelands getaways.
The structure allows travellers to expand their journey without simply adding more nights of similar safari activities.
A Greater Kruger safari can, for example, continue into the Panorama Route, include additional time in Kruger National Park or connect with the Winelands as part of a wider South African itinerary.
For travel professionals, this provides another level of flexibility without requiring the core package to be redesigned for every client.
Why Connected Safari Journeys Matter
The development of the Live Wild collection reflects a growing distinction between adding more nights to a safari and adding more variety to the journey.
Wildlife viewing remains the foundation, but conservation participation, walking, birding, retreat time and destination extensions can introduce different perspectives on the landscapes travellers are visiting.
Bundox’s model brings its safari operations and destination management role together. The Live Wild Packages provide the structured safari component, while the company’s DMC services and PLUS extensions allow travellers and trade partners to build a broader Southern African journey around it.
Current Live Wild package dates and availability can be viewed through the company’s availability platform.
