Matte, Metal And Marble: The Finish Palette Redefining Modern Kitchens

MATTE, METAL AND MARBLE

The New Kitchen Finish Palette

Modern kitchen design is embracing bold sophistication with a finish palette that balances matte elegance, metallic sheen, and marble drama. Interior designers are pairing matte black taps and brushed black chrome accents with the timeless veining of white Carrara or black Marquina marble. The result? A tactile, visual feast that transforms the kitchen into a showpiece.

This ‘Matte, Metal and Marble’ palette is about layering contrast: velvety black textures, reflective metallics, and the expressive natural grain of stone. Fixtures in brushed black chrome add a quiet shimmer that contrasts beautifully with the soft finish of matte cabinetry or the raw power of marble countertops.

Matte black fittings are now a must-have across design-forward homes. Whether it’s the understated finish of a mixer tap or the precise geometry of a sculptural faucet, these dark hues command attention while effortlessly blending into the kitchen’s aesthetic. Add in stainless steel appliances or brushed black accessories, and you’ve got a palette that feels both modern and timeless.

The move to textured finishes doesn’t mean sacrificing function. In fact, the next generation of kitchen mixers combines beauty with cutting-edge usability. Take hansgrohe’s FinishPlus collection: available in Matte Black and Brushed Black Chrome, it lets homeowners match every detail without compromising on performance.

These taps are engineered for effortless multitasking - perfect for busy cooks. Many models include Select technology, allowing users to switch water spray types with a single push – even with messy hands. Integrated ComfortZone height designs offer ample space for large pots, while 360° swivel spouts and pull-out sprayers add range and reach.

Models like the Aquno Select M81 feature a SatinFlow spray at the base, ideal for delicately rinsing produce with just 4 litres per minute. Meanwhile, the Talis M54’s PowderSpray releases a micro-fine mist that turns routine rinsing into a luxurious experience. These features don’t just elevate function – they transform the act of cooking itself.

Fixtures That Set the Standard

Each of these standout pieces blends performance with premium design:

  • Zesis M33 – A minimalist single-lever pull-out mixer with dual spray options. Available in Chrome, Matte Black, and Stainless Steel, it’s a sleek, award-winning choice for contemporary kitchens.
  • Aquno Select M81 – A statement tap with a bold high-arch form and ultra-wide SatinFlow spray. Brushed Black Chrome or Matte Black finishes let it integrate beautifully into a layered kitchen.
  • Talis Select M54 – Precision meets style in this modern silhouette. Its micro-fine PowderSpray and tall pull-out form are perfect for stylish and splash-free cooking.
  • Talis M52 – A versatile favourite. Multiple height options and a fold-down spout allow for installation even in front of windows. Its matte and metal finishes make it a strong visual fit.

Each mixer enhances the look and feel of the kitchen while simplifying daily tasks – a perfect marriage of form and function.

This design trend isn’t just for aesthetics. It reflects a deeper shift: kitchens are no longer just functional spaces, but experiential zones. By using innovative taps, sculptural materials, and seamless finishes, homeowners are creating kitchens that feel as indulgent as a designer lounge.

And what better way to celebrate this than with a dish that is as luxurious and impressive as the kitchen it’s made in?

Molten Chocolate Marble Lava Cakes

In keeping with the theme, this dessert is a dramatic centrepiece. A rich, glossy dessert with a soft, molten centre that oozes like liquid marble – this showstopper is incredibly simple, but utterly luxurious.

Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • 115 g dark chocolate (70%), chopped
  • 115 g unsalted butter, plus more for greasing
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • 30 g flour
  • Cocoa powder (for ramekins)
  • Optional: vanilla ice cream, white chocolate drizzle, powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare ramekins: Grease 4 ramekins with butter and dust lightly with cocoa. Preheat oven to 220°C.
  2. Melt chocolate and butter: In a heatproof bowl over simmering water, melt butter and chocolate until smooth. Set aside to cool.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk eggs, yolks, and sugar until thick and pale. Stir in vanilla and salt.
  4. Combine: Gently fold in melted chocolate mixture, then sift in flour and fold just until combined.
  5. Bake: Divide into ramekins. Bake for 12–14 minutes until edges are set but centres are still soft.
  6. Serve: Cool 1 minute, invert onto plates. Dust with sugar, drizzle with melted white chocolate for a marbled effect, and serve immediately.

From ultra-refined fittings to beautifully effortless desserts, today’s kitchens are built to inspire and indulge. Whether hosting or relaxing, the Matte, Metal and Marble trend offers a tactile, functional, and utterly luxurious environment.

Let form follow function – and finish it with flair.
